School Consolidation News
A new effort to put together the Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls schools has been initiated. The Jay School Committee and the RSU 36 Board of Directors have submitted the initial paperwork to the Commissioner of Education and approval has been given to start the process. The first part of the process is to form a regional planning committee (R.P.C.) and that action has also been completed.
The R.P.C. will put together a new plan to be voted on by the voters in all three towns on January 25. A great deal of work needs to be done in a short time and sub-committees will gather information for the planning committee and the public to make an informed decision about the consolidation plan. The actual vote on January 25, 2011 will ask if you approve the plan for consolidation of the schools in the three towns that was created by the regional planning committee. For that reason, the public needs to know what is in that plan and what impact approving or disapproving the plan will have on students and taxpayers.
