SCHOOL POLICY FOR PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS HAS CHANGED:

SPORTS PHYSICALS WILL BE REQUIRED EVERY 2 YEARS BEGINNING 09-10 School Year.

We will no longer offer sports physicals at school.

Students now will be required to get a physical from their family doctor before beginning a sport for the first time (so grade 5 student athletes or new athletes in other grades) and then every 2 years thereafter.

We will require completion of a health update questionaire in the year between physical exams.

For example, a grade 5 student athlete will need a physical exam clearing them to play before beginning to play, then again in grade 7, 9, and 11.

In grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 they will need to complete a health update form for the school nurse.

The nurse may request a physical exam on the off year if there is a possible problem identified in the health history.

This is consistent with the Maine Principals Association policy.

Any family that is unable to get a physical exam (ie does not have a family doctor or is unable to pay) should contact the school nurse and she can assist them as needed.

SO PLEASE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR YOUR NEW STUDENT ATHLETE TO GET A PHYSICAL EXAM OVER THE SUMMER TO PLAY SPORTS IN THE FALL.

Athletes that had a sports physical in the 08-09 school year are okay to play until 10-11 school year after completing a health history update for sports.

We will no longer require or provide physicals for students in grades 3, 6, and 9.

Please contact the school nurse with any questions.
